Port Chester - Rye, New York N.A.A.C.P. President's Message
President’s Message:
First, I want to remind all of our readers about the
Veteran’s Day ceremony scheduled for 10:00 am, Saturday,
November 9th, in the Historic African Cemetery of Rye,
located next to Greenwood Union Cemetery. I have no doubt
that member of our branch David Thomas will present an
interesting and respectful program.
At the Port Chester-Rye Membership Picnic, Jack
Robinson has agreed to chair the Economic Development
Committee and Shrenwick Powell has agreed to chair the
Environmental and Climate Justice Committee. We are
recruiting additional members to join those committees.
On Thursday, November 14th, at 7:00 pm, there will
be a Town Hall discussion of the 2020 Census held at the Port
Chester Senior Center, 220 Grace Church St. (behind the
Village Hall), Port Chester, NY. It is FREE and open to the
public. There is plenty of on-site parking. The event is hosted
by the 2020 Census Complete Count committee. The Keynote
Speaker will be Norma Drummond, Commissioner,
Westchester County Department of Planning. I have already
heard her excellent presentation at her office in White Plains,
and I cannot recommend it highly enough!
Finally, a sad note. Branch member for several
decades Ethel James has passed away. Arrangements had not
been announced as of this writing. This is yet another
reminder that we must continuously bring in young members
to assure that the NAACP can continue to stand strong as a
force for justice in America.
