Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Ballmer Group plan to assist   economic success in Newark, New Jersey.

"Over the next 18 months, Newark will focus on reducing eviction rates amid rising local housing costs to help ensure that long-term residents share in the benefits of local economic growth," stated a press release from the City of Newark. The Office of Tenant Legal Services (OTLS) is a new initiative to provide free legal representation to prevent evictions.

“One of the highest priorities of my administration is to reduce the disparities of wealth, income and opportunity that Newark residents face,” said Mayor Baraka. “This national initiative to increase economic mobility will be a critical tool in our work towards achieving economic justice. It will be especially valuable in our efforts to provide free legal help to low-income tenants facing eviction.”

A $12 million investment from Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Ballmer Group to Newark, New Jersey to aid in economic success. What Works Cities, a Bloomberg Philanthropies, who partners with Johns Hopkins University's Center for Government Excellence, the Harvard Kennedy School's Government Performance Lab and the Sunlight Foundation demands cities help its citizens improve their life using data.

"The ten cities participating in the economic mobility initiative are:
Albuquerque, NM; Cincinnati, OH; Dayton, OH; Detroit, MI; Lansing, MI; New Orleans, LA; Newark, NJ; Racine, WI; Rochester, NY; and Tulsa, OK," stated the press release from the City of Newark. I visited Rochester, NY in the past and I learned that they need help in their elementary, middle, and high schools.
