U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo stated:
"On behalf of the Government of the United States and the American people, I extend warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Maldives as you celebrate the 55th anniversary of your independence.
The United States and Maldives enjoy a strong and growing relationship. We are bound by shared democratic values and our mutual interest in a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific region that ensures sovereignty and prosperity for all. I look forward to continued close cooperation with the Government of Maldives as our countries work to deepen our bilateral ties.
May the people of Maldives have a joyous and prosperous year ahead," stated U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo.
The Encyclopedia Britannica stimulates the idea of Maldives. Maldives is an island nation, independent of Great Britain, east of the continent of Africa, near the nations of India, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia; and west of the continent of Australia. I think my grandmother ancestors lived in Australia. I think her father was born in Sri Lanka and her mother was born in the West Indies. Her father's father was born in Australia and married an Aboriginal Australian. On my father's side of the family, I dreamed that his father was born in Indonesia, Australia, or in a South Pacific Island nation where their hair turns blonde in the sun! Like African looking Aboriginal Australians with brown to dark brown skin hues or skin color. Why do Sheikhs have amber eyes? Is he 1/8th, my paternal grandfather, Saudi Arabian, Yemenian, Bahrain?
The demonym for Bahrain is Bahraini.
