The Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative is a program that is a year long! It started on Sunday, July 14, 2019. Mayor Ras J. Baraka will learn additional city management skills from
Harvard Business School and Harvard Kennedy School faculty. Michael R. Bloomberg is the former mayor of New York City; he started The Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative.
“Newark is on the cutting edge of urban change, policy, and equitable growth initiatives. We are pleased to be chosen to participate in the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative, which will enable us to both learn from subject experts and fellow municipalities and to share with them our innovative programs such as Newark2020, the Inclusionary Zoning Ordinance, and our Peoples Assemblies. Newark is showing America how we lead by example, and we look forward to implementing ideas that we learn from these sessions,” Mayor Baraka said in a press release from the City of Newark. “I look forward to attending these sessions.”
The website to learn about the Newark2020 program is newark2020.com. The Inclusionary Zoning Ordinance mandates that 20 percent of new housing units in Newark, New Jersey are affordable units on the same site as the new development.
