President Obama Supports Veterans Federal Education Benefits
Benefits provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) under the Post-9/11 GI Bill, the Department of Defense’s (DOD) Tuition Assistance Program, and the Department of Education’s (ED) Federal student aid programs assist veterans who want to attend college.
President Obama announced the Principles of Excellence Executive Order in 2012 to give veterans funds to attend college. "... the surviving spouses and children of service members who died in the line of duty after September 10, 2001, and legislation requiring all 50 states, Washington D.C., and U.S. Territories to provide recently transitioning veterans and dependents in-state tuition rates at public institutions of higher learning – and now all 50 states are doing just that," read a press release from the White House Press Office. GI Bill Comparison Tool and College Scorecard are online tools for veterans to use to get benefits. President Obama supports the United Services Military Apprenticeship Program (USMAP) for veterans to be trained in employable skills.
